Russia observes 14 official public holidays including New Year holidays (January 1-8, an 8-day holiday cluster that is the longest in Europe), Orthodox Christmas (January 7), Defender of the Fatherland Day (February 23), International Women's Day (March 8), Victory Day (May 9), and Russia Day (June 12). Russia's Mir payment card system, developed after earlier sanctions threats, has become the domestic standard replacing Visa and Mastercard for most domestic transactions. Sberbank's SberPay and the Faster Payments System (FPS/SBP) enable instant transfers 24/7 between Russian bank accounts.
